This is helpful, but if I imagine going back to when my daughter was 4, I still don't think I'd be able to discern between the categories. Maybe this is because basic things (like transitions to and from Kindergarten) would cause major meltdowns.

Of course! It’s so tricky and we never get it 💯 —like everything else in parenting—but it’s helpful to think through.

It can be so hard to tell sometimes, so just skipping past this part straight to figuring out the skill weakness is what’s needed in some moments.
