About this workshop…

Testing season is here and it’s one of my least favorite seasons of the year. I spend an entire chapter in my upcoming book, The Neurodivergent Learner, on the research behind testing and you can read about my own experience with test anxiety here.

As the trusted adult of a neurodivergent learner, I want you to know the benefits of testing (there’s really only one), the risks of testing (there are many—especially for neurodivergent learners), and what I have come to see as some aspects of testing that are truly a waste of time. You’ll leave this workshop with a new perspective on testing and how to best support neurodivergent learners throughout testing.

In this workshop you will learn:

  • different types of standardized tests (group testing vs. an individual evaluation)

  • the benefit and limitations of standardized testing

  • what testing accommodations are helpful for neurodivergent learners

  • how to help miminize test anxiety for the anxious learner

  • how to advocate for less standardized testing and more autonomy for teachers

Meet Dr. Emily

As a child psychologist, former school psychologist, and parent, I’ve spent the last two decades working with neurodivergent children and teens alongside their families and teachers.

Our kids are complex. What works for one child may or may not work for another. There is so much information out there, but you are ultimately the decision-maker of the next best step on your child’s path. I’m here to help you to feel more capable and experience more joy with your child.

If you’re ready to learn how to reduce the stress in your home, help others understand your kid, and find more joy, you are in the right place.

Let’s keep learning together,

~Dr. Emily
