Notes from the therapy roomโฆ
In the hustle and bustle of getting our kids all the places they need to go and helping them do all the things they need to do, sometimes we forget to play. One of my favorite things about working with autistic children (and teens!) is the joy of following their engagement and interests wherever they take me in session. Beyond a similar structure each time I work with kids, I am ready to roll with whatever topic, toy, or object comes to session with my clients.
We can incorporate play into our daily life more than we think we can. Donโt overthink it, just join your child in their world and see what happens. Many of us have an extra day of playtime this weekend as we observe MLK Day. See what kind of silliness you can get your self into. Laugh, play, dance, and singโฆeven if your kid calls you cringe. We need these moments to balance the tough times when we are helping our kids learn hard things and manage big feelings. You can learn more about managing big feelings in the replay of the January Parent Workshop below.
Letโs keep learning together,
~Dr. Emily

FREE Referral Tracker for Parents
Are you new to the journey of raising a neurodivergent child? If so, you are likely in the process of building your childโs team. I created the referral tracker to help you stay organized.
The Referral Tracker will help you:
Prioritize the next step: Learn how to read through the recommendations of your childโs developmental evaluation and determine the next best step.
Learn who does what: The Provider Glossary comprehensively explains what each professional focuses on along this journey.
Organize your correspondences: Keep track of provider location, cost, availability, and who takes insurance in the Referral Tracker template.
Build your childโs team: Once completed, you will have an organized list of potential providers for your child at this point on the journey!

FREE Regulation Roster to help you get to know your students!
If you are struggling to understand your studentsโ neurodiverse needs, I have a FREE tool for you!
The Regulation Roster will help you:
Identify how students regulate themselves: Learn what to look for when observing how a student moves, communicates, and socializes with others.
Organize your observations: The Regulation Roster checklist format keeps your student list (and your brain) organized!
Brainstorm what your students need: You know your students first need be regulated to learn. But what does that mean? Iโll explain more and help you know what to look for in student stress responses that interfere with student success.
Connect with each studentโs spark for learning: You will have an organized list of student interests and sensory-motor needs all in one class roster, which will help you help your students get ready to learn!

Now scheduling professional development for Fall 2024
If youโre a school administrator who loves watching students thrive, but your teachers need more guidance to meet the needs of such a diverse group of learners, Iโm here for you.
Youโve provided professional development to support an understanding of social-emotional learning, but your teachers need more coaching on what to do when met with student behavior.
If youโre excited about the opportunity to create a school culture where your entire staff feels confident in supporting the neurodivergent needs and mental wellness of all students, youโre in the right place!
