About Dr. Emily
Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here.
Learn with Dr. Emily® is a neuro-affirming space for parents and educators learning together to better support neurodivergent kids growing up in a world that wasn’t built for them.
I’m Dr. Emily, a licensed psychologist with a Ph.D. in School Psychology here to help you navigate school (and life) with the neurodivergent kids and teens in your life.
Let’s get started!
My Background
I received a PhD in School Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where I worked at Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute and the Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities. I began my career as a School Psychologist in Houston, Texas specializing in school-based mental health in K-12 public schools. Since 2010, I have worked in private practice in North Carolina supporting the mental health needs of neurodivergent youth, their families, and teachers. My new book, THE NEURODIVERGENT LEARNER, is available for pre-order and will be on shelves August 25, 2026!
In addition to hosting the Learn with Dr. Emily® Substack, I’m also the creator of The Neurodiverse Classroom®, a professional development curriculum for educators. I have been featured on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, quoted in The New York Times and The Washington Post, and was a contributor to the NYT best-seller ADHD is Awesome by Kim and Penn Holderness.
I’ve spent the last 20 years learning from neurodivergent children and teens, their families and their teachers. I’m also a parent on this journey and my kids have taught me everything I didn’t learn in graduate school.
At Learn with Dr. Emily, we pair my knowledge of child development, education, & mental health with your experience raising and teaching the neurodivergent children in your life, sharing our ideas with each other along the way.
I can’t wait to meet you!
Let’s stay connected,
~Dr. Emily
