In today’s Advice Thread, we’re sharing how we stay mentally (and physically) well—because they pretty much go hand in hand.Let’s share ideas about what we do that helps and what we still need help with. Sharing ideas is how we make change!
Cut and paste the list below into the comments and tell us how you take care of yourself while parenting and what you’re still trying to find a solution for. Help each other out with a suggestion if you have an idea to share. I’ll go first in the comments!
MY FAVORITE TIME OF DAY: Early morning before my family wakes up
WHAT BRINGS ME JOY: Singing, figuring out a song on the piano, watching my kid dance
HOW I PREVENT STRESS: Sleep, Sobriety (since 2022), Peloton (cycling & weights), and doing less (cancelling stuff is hard for me, but I try not to wait until I’m physically sick to do it)
HOW I KNOW I’M STRESSED: Migraines, irritability, and stand-up snacking (you know, when you stand in your kitchen eating right out of the container and pretending calories don’t count, ha!)
WHAT DO I DO IF I’M REALLY STRESSED: I go to sleep and try again tomorrow
WHAT I STILL NEED HELP WITH: Tell me how you disconnect from technology :)
MY FAVORITE PLACE TO BE: Out in nature, likely my deck in the morning or hiking
MY FAVORITE TIME OF DAY: I love early morning (if I am by myself--haha, I am not ready to converse until after my first cup of coffee)
WHAT BRINGS ME JOY: Running, writing, listening to music, silly things my kids say
HOW I PREVENT STRESS: Movement, meditation and sleep
HOW I KNOW I’M STRESSED: Snappy and short with my family
WHAT DO I DO IF I’M REALLY STRESSED: Take a nap or a walk
WHAT I STILL NEED HELP WITH: Being able to be present during very stressful weeks
