Navigating School for Your Neurodivergent Child

Parent Workshop REPLAY

Who is this workshop for?

Parents raising a neurodivergent child of any age, who want tips navigating school for your child. Public, private, homeschool, unschool? What are all the options?

If your child is attending a traditional school, you may struggle to figure out when to not be concerned, how to advocate for more support, and what kinds of supports are even available.

As a former school psychologist and child psychologist specializing in supporting neurodivergent kids, their families, and their teachers, I will walk you through what I think are the most important factors to identify the best educational fit for your child, help you understand when and how to advocate for your child, plus you can ask me all of your questions about regular education, special education, IEPs, and 504s.

In this workshop you will learn:

  • What to look for in a school that aligns with your child’s strengths and needs and how to know if your child is in the wrong educational setting

  • Why you might consider public, private, homeschool, or unschooling

  • What are the differences between a 504 Plan and an IEP level of support

  • How to effectively collaborate with teachers and understanding what types of call for an email, phone call, conference, or formal meeting

  • Preparing your child for the next level of school at Kindergarten, middle school, high school, and beyond

What qualifies me to teach this workshop?

As a child psychologist, former school psychologist, and parent, I’ve spent the last two decades working with neurodivergent children and teens alongside their families and teachers.

Our kids are complex. What works for one child may or may not work for another. Our families are complex. There is so much information out there, but you are ultimately the decision-makers of the next best step in your child’s journey. I want to help you to feel more capable and experience more joy on this parenting journey.

If you’re ready to learn how to reduce the stress in your home, help others understand your kid, and find more joy, you are in the right place.

Let’s do this together,

~Dr. Emily
